Some stories don’t end.
They simply pause.
I once accepted that ours had ended.
He told me he couldn’t continue because he was being introduced to someone through an arranged marriage. It wasn’t the answer I had hoped for, but I respected it. I wished him well and quietly let go.
That was supposed to be the end.
Until one day, he came back.
Not with flowers.
Not with promises.
Not with the words, “I made a mistake.”

He simply told me that the marriage never happened.
I remember staring at my phone, wondering why.
Why tell me?
Why reach out after all that time?
Why reopen a door that I had already tried so hard to close?
If you had truly moved on, why come back?
And if you came back because you still wanted to know me, why leave everything unsaid?
Perhaps that is the hardest part about uncertainty.
It doesn’t break your heart all at once.
Instead, it leaves you holding pieces of a puzzle without showing you the picture on the box.
You begin to wonder whether every message means something.
Whether every phone call is a step closer.
Or whether you are simply reading hope into ordinary conversations.
Sometimes I ask myself if I’m foolish for hoping.
Maybe I am.
Or maybe I’m simply human.
Hope often returns quietly.
Not because someone makes a promise, but because they make themselves present again.
The truth is, I don’t know what he wants.
I don’t know whether he sees me as someone he wants to build a future with, or simply as someone he enjoys talking to.
And perhaps that’s the question I have been carrying all along.
Not…
“Does he like me?”
But…
“Why did you come back if you weren’t going to tell me where we are going?”
Still, I cannot force clarity from someone who hasn’t offered it yet.
All I can do is watch actions more than words.
If he truly wants to be part of my life, consistency will reveal it.
If not, then silence will answer what words never did.
I met him in Makkah.
Maybe that’s why this story has always felt different to me.
Not because Makkah guarantees love.
But it taught me something far greater.
Sometimes Allah allows people to enter our lives not to give us certainty immediately, but to teach us patience, sincerity, and trust in His timing.
So today, I choose not to chase answers.
I choose to make a simple prayer.
“Ya Allah, if he is meant to be part of my journey, make his intentions clear and make our path easy. But if he is only meant to teach me a lesson, let me accept Your decree with a heart that remains grateful.”
And until that answer comes…
I will keep walking.
Not because I have stopped hoping.
But because I have learned that hope belongs in Allah’s hands more than in mine.
