Some places make you stop walking—not because you’re tired, but because the view is simply too beautiful to rush past. Bukit Merese in Lombok was one of those places for me.

I arrived around 8.30 AM. Even though it was still morning, the summer sun was already shining brightly, and the weather felt surprisingly warm. Thankfully, the gentle sea breeze made the hike much more enjoyable.
The moment I reached the top, I understood why so many people recommend this place. The scenery was breathtaking: crystal-clear blue ocean, endless blue skies, and rolling green hills stretching as far as the eye could see. The contrast of colors looked almost unreal, as if someone had painted the landscape.
For a while, I simply stood there, taking it all in. There was no rush, no noise—just the sound of waves crashing against the cliffs and the peaceful feeling of being surrounded by nature.

Then, around 9:30 AM, something unexpected made the experience even more memorable. A herd of grazing cattle slowly crossed the hillside with their herders. Watching them peacefully wander across the green hills, with the sparkling ocean in the background, felt like stepping into a postcard.
It was such a simple moment, yet it perfectly captured the charm of Bukit Merese. The cattle, the green landscape, and the turquoise sea created a scene that was uniquely Lombok—peaceful, authentic, and unforgettable.
If you’re planning a trip to Lombok, I highly recommend visiting Bukit Merese in the morning. It may already be a little warm, but the reward is a spectacular panoramic view and, if you’re lucky, the chance to witness the local cattle grazing freely across the hills.
Some places impress you with famous landmarks. Bukit Merese reminds you that sometimes, the most beautiful memories come from nature quietly being itself.
