Because sometimes, it’s not about the missed phone call. It’s about the promise, the expectation, and the disappointment that follows.

Have you ever waited for something that deep down you already suspected wouldn’t happen?

Well, I have.

And honestly, it’s exhausting.

Sometimes, I wonder why something as simple as a phone call can become so complicated.

It’s just a phone call, right?

A few minutes of conversation. Hearing someone’s voice. Asking how their day went. Sharing a little laughter.

Nothing extraordinary.

But when that phone call comes from someone who means something to you, suddenly it doesn’t feel so simple anymore.

It becomes something you look forward to.

Something that makes you smile just thinking about it.

And sometimes, something that leaves you disappointed.

When You Already Know What Might Happen

The funny thing is, I wasn’t even completely surprised.

Somewhere in the back of my mind, I already had a feeling that the call wouldn’t happen.

But there was still a small part of me that hoped I was wrong.

Maybe this time would be different.

Maybe this time, the promise would actually be kept.

So I waited.

Not necessarily staring at my phone every second, but still keeping that little expectation somewhere in my heart.

And then…

Nothing.

No call.

Just silence.

And honestly, I was upset.

Not because I expected someone to spend hours talking to me.

But because I believe that when you tell someone you’re going to do something, especially someone who cares about you, you should at least try to follow through.

And if you can’t?

Just let them know.

It’s really that simple.

Then Came the Message

A little while ago, my phone finally received a message.

For a brief moment, I wondered what it would say.

And there it was.

“Sorry for not calling.”

That’s it.

No explanation.

No suggestion of another time.

Just those four words.

And I found myself staring at the message, feeling more annoyed than relieved.

I mean, what am I supposed to say?

“Oh, that’s okay! No worries!”

Well…

Actually, I do worry.

And no, at that moment, it didn’t feel okay.

Haha.

Sometimes I wish I could simply reply with the first thing that comes to mind.

“I hate you!”

Yes, dramatic. I know.

But that’s what frustration can sound like when you’re tired of feeling disappointed.

Of course, I don’t necessarily mean that I hate the person.

Maybe I just hate the situation.

I hate the waiting.

I hate the uncertainty.

And I hate the feeling of hoping for something that never happens.

It’s Never Just About the Phone Call

I think that’s what people sometimes misunderstand.

When someone feels hurt because of a missed call, it isn’t always about the call itself.

It’s about feeling remembered.

It’s about knowing that someone values your time.

It’s about believing that their words mean something.

I don’t need grand romantic gestures every day.

I don’t need expensive gifts or constant attention.

Sometimes, all I want is a little consistency.

If you say you’ll call, call.

If you can’t, tell me.

And if something changes, communicate.

Because honestly, uncertainty can be more exhausting than the truth.

When “Sorry” Starts to Feel Too Familiar

I believe apologies are important.

Everyone makes mistakes. Life gets busy, unexpected things happen, and sometimes we genuinely cannot do what we planned.

I understand that.

I’m not expecting perfection.

But I also believe that an apology becomes more meaningful when it’s followed by an effort to make things right.

Sometimes, hearing “I’m sorry” is comforting.

Other times, especially when you’re already feeling disappointed, those words don’t immediately make the hurt disappear.

And perhaps that’s where I am right now.

Not angry enough to start an argument.

Not calm enough to pretend everything is fine.

Just somewhere in between.

Frustrated.

Disappointed.

And a little emotionally tired.

Maybe I Need to Stop Waiting

The older I get, the more I realize that peace of mind is something worth protecting.

I cannot control whether someone calls.

I cannot control how someone communicates.

And I certainly cannot force anyone to make time for me.

But I can control how much of my own time and emotional energy I spend waiting.

Maybe I need to stop building expectations around promises that haven’t yet become actions.

Maybe I need to stop checking my phone so often.

Maybe I need to focus more on the things that make me happy.

My work.

My writing.

My family.

My dreams.

My plans to travel the world.

And yes, my slightly ridiculous dream of having one billion dollars someday.

Haha!

Because life is too short to spend every morning wondering why someone didn’t call the night before.

I Don’t Want to Become Someone Who Stops Caring

Here’s the complicated part.

I don’t want to become cold.

I don’t want to become someone who no longer believes in love, kindness, or meaningful relationships.

I still want to care.

I still want to trust.

And I still want to believe that people can keep their promises.

But I also want to learn the difference between being understanding and constantly putting my own feelings aside.

I can understand that someone is busy without pretending I’m not disappointed.

I can accept an apology without immediately feeling better.

And I can love someone without making excuses for every situation that hurts me.

Maybe that’s something I’m still learning.

Dear Heart, Let’s Choose Peace Today

So, what did I do after receiving that message?

Honestly?

I felt annoyed.

Really annoyed.

Part of me wanted to reply immediately and tell him exactly how frustrated I was.

Another part of me just wanted to put my phone away.

And maybe that’s what I need right now.

Not another argument.

Not another explanation.

Not another evening spent waiting.

Just a little space to breathe, think, and remember that my day doesn’t have to revolve around someone else’s phone call.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll feel differently.

Maybe I’ll laugh about how dramatic I was.

Or maybe I’ll realize that this small disappointment was trying to teach me something about what I need from a relationship.

I don’t know yet.

But one thing I do know is this:

An apology can acknowledge a disappointment, but consistency is what helps rebuild trust.

And sometimes, when your heart is tired, the kindest thing you can do for yourself is stop waiting for the phone to ring and start enjoying your own life again.
