The Unchecked Wish List

Today, I don’t really have anything to write about.

Ironically, perhaps that’s the story itself.

For the past few days, my mind has been crowded with so many thoughts. I want to travel, but my savings aren’t enough yet. I want to own a home, but the road ahead is still long. I want to get married, yet I don’t even know who Allah will send to walk beside me through life.

Then there are the smaller wishes. I want to buy this. I want to try that. I want to arrive at destinations that, for now, exist only in my imagination.

Sometimes I quietly ask, “Ya Allah, when?”

Perhaps we all have a list of wishes that remain unchecked.

Some people are waiting for their dream job. Others are praying for healing. Some are longing for a child. Some are waiting for the right spouse. And some simply hope they can sleep peacefully without worrying about next month’s bills.

Everyone is waiting for something.

I used to think life was a competition—who could buy a house first, who got married sooner, who traveled abroad more often, whose career shone the brightest.

The older I get, the more I realize that life is not a race.

Life is a journey that Allah has written differently for each of us.

If every prayer were answered today, perhaps we would never learn patience.

If every door opened the moment we knocked, perhaps we would never learn to wait with hope.

If every dream came true instantly, perhaps we would forget that Allah alone knows the perfect time for everything.

I still dream of visiting many places.

I still hope to own a home that truly feels like a place to return to.

I still pray that one day Allah will introduce me to someone who is not only good in my eyes, but also good in His.

All of those hopes are still written in my prayers.

Just because they haven’t happened yet doesn’t mean they never will.

Just because they haven’t arrived doesn’t mean Allah has forgotten.

Perhaps today Allah is teaching me something I so often forget: to enjoy the journey instead of being consumed by the finish line.

Because when I look back, I realize that many prayers I once whispered through tears have quietly become part of my life.

Maybe the prayers I am making today will become like that, too.

Not today.

But in His perfect time.

Until that day comes, my responsibility is simple: keep moving forward, keep striving, and keep trusting that Allah is never late.

Because the most beautiful moment is not when every wish on our list is finally fulfilled.

The most beautiful moment is realizing that while we were waiting, Allah was quietly shaping our hearts—making us stronger, more patient, and drawing us closer to Him.
