There should be a special award for the stories we create in our own heads.

Today, during a phone call, he casually said:

“You should come to my home country”

Now, a normal person would probably hear that sentence and think:

“Oh, that’s nice.”

Unfortunately, I am not always a normal person.

Within approximately three seconds, my imagination had already started producing a full travel documentary.

Perhaps he would show me around.

Perhaps he would introduce me to his favorite places.

Perhaps he would personally become my guide.

Perhaps…

Then he continued:

“I know someone there who can guide you. Maybe I can refer him to you.”

Silence.

Excuse me?

Not you?

You’re referring me to someone else?

Oh.

I see.

Thank you very much, Pak Haji.

For a brief moment, my imagination was booking flights, planning itineraries, and creating scenes that did not exist.

Only to be brought back to reality by one very practical sentence.

And honestly?

It made me laugh.

Because sometimes the funniest thing is not what people say.

It is what we think they mean.

Perhaps that is another lesson about expectations.

Not every invitation contains a hidden message.

Not every kind gesture is a romantic signal.

And not every story needs extra chapters written by our imagination.

Sometimes a guide is simply a guide.

And sometimes Pak Haji is just being helpful.

Although I must admit, for about five seconds there, I thought I was getting a personal tour.

Turns out I was getting a referral.

Life is humbling like that.
